So I will give him a little plug, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ddcomputer.com.au\/index.php\" title=\"D &#038; D Computers Online\" target=\"_blank\">D &#038; D Computers Online<\/a> and their eBay store <a href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/www.ebay.com.au\/sch\/ddcomputertechnology\/m.html?_nkw=&#038;_armrs=1&#038;_from=&#038;_ipg=25&#038;_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2654\" title=\"D &#038; D International\" target=\"_blank\">D &#038; D International eBay Store<\/a><br \/>\nIf you are in Australia, they were very understanding with my problem, so you can do much worse than buying from them.<br \/>\nEnd Plug now.)<\/p>\n<h2>The solution<\/h2>\n<p>The compatible memory for this computer is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>DDR3-1066\n<li>PC3-8500<\/li>\n<li>CAS: 7-7-7-20<\/li>\n<li>Non-ECC<\/li>\n<li>Unbuffered<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These specs all looked fine on the corsair memory above, apart from one thing&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><b><\/i>The Intel HM55 southbridge chip set will only be able to use memory packaged with 256Mx8 memory modules<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>What does this mean?<\/b><br \/>\nTo make 4GB of memory I could do it with 8 x 512MB memory chips or I could use 16 x 256MB chips.<br \/>\n(If you have a look at some memory photos you can see this as either 4 or 8 memory blocks on one side of the memory circuit board.)<\/p>\n<p>The Intel HM55 chipset cannot use memory with 512Mx8 memory.<\/p>\n<p>The Pavilion dv6 3030tx runs the HM55 intel chipset and hence you need to find memory with the specific 256Mx8 memory packaging.<\/p>\n<h2>Links<\/h2>\n<p>Here are some links to the various forum posts that I used to get to this answer.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ramcity.com.au\/buy\/ramcity-8gb-unbuffered-204-pin-so-dimm-kit-2x-4gb\/2xCPP\" title=\"RAMCity memory that I eventually purchased\" target=\"_blank\">RAMCity memory that I eventually purchased<\/a>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/h30434.www3.hp.com\/t5\/Hardware-Upgrades-Replacements\/Memory-Compatibility-for-HP-Pavilion-dv6-3030tx-WX050PA\/td-p\/2258923\" title=\"HP Support Forum\" target=\"_blank\">HP Support Forum<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/forum.corsair.com\/v3\/showthread.php?t=113301\" title=\"Corsair support forum - RAMGuy\" target=\"_blank\">Corsair support forum &#8211; RAMGuy<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The scenario I have a HP Pavilion dv6 3030tx.
